If you’ve been on the hunt for a new water heater recently, you may have heard of tankless water heaters and how much more expensive they are than the classic models. Can they possibly be worth it? How do they work?
We at Draingo Plumbing are experienced water heater plumbers in the Trinity, Florida area with decades of knowledge about a plethora of plumbing services and a track record of professionalism and reliability. Read more below about tankless water heaters and the difference between different types.
How Does A Water Heater Work?
So in your standard water heater with a tank, water flows through a small pipe called a “dip tube” into the tank, where it will be heated by a heating mechanism at the bottom of the tank to the temperature on the tank’s thermostat. Depending on the size of your home, you probably have a 50-60 gallon tank, which won’t usually last through a large family’s shower or bath schedule.
A tankless water heater heats water instantly without a storage tank. When the hot water faucet is turned on in your house, cold water flows through a heat exchanger in the unit and either a natural gas burner or an electric element will heat the water on its way to you!
Are They Worth It?
Tankless water heaters are energy savers for your home. A standard tanked water heater heats and re-heats the water in that tank about 3-4 times while you’re at work, even when the hot water is not in use. It’s a huge waste of energy and may be driving your energy costs up.
We have been water heater plumbers in the Trinity, Florida area for a long time, so we’ve seen it all. In our opinion, tankless water heaters are absolutely worth the higher price tag if it is a gas tankless heater. The electric heaters are, in our opinion, not quite perfected in terms of the technology.
